  • Sadaqah is a form of voluntary charity that a Muslim gives towards the general betterment of the Ummah and society at large. Unlike Zakat, giving Sadaqah is not a religious obligation under Islam, it is however highly encouraged and one the most appreciated acts in the eyes of Allah (SWT) and the last Prophet (PBUH).
  • Who Can Give Sadaqah?
  • Unlike Zakat, there is no wealth threshold to giving Sadaqah: anyone who wishes to give Sadaqah can do so, as little or as much as it may be. As the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:
  • There is no upper or lower limit to Sadaqah and unlike Zakat; there are no fixed categories of people or causes you can give Sadaqah towards. Islam has created this flexible form of charity to encourage Muslims to help people in need as much as possible.

  • The kind of Sadaqah whose reward continues as long as people benefit from its outcomes is called Sadaqah tul Jariyah. It’s the kind of Sadaqah, whose rewards outlive you and benefit you in your afterlife. Sadaqah tul Jariyah also transcends generation, that is, your descendants for generations will reap rewards from this good deed of yours.
